The United Nations has recently created such a document. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international human rights treaty which covers all aspects of a child’s life to ensure they have adequate civil, political, economic and cultural rights.
When a relationship breaks down this Convention can act as a template to ensure the rights of any children involved are safeguarded. Organisations such as Cafcass, Local Authorities and the Child Maintenance Service will be governed by its parameters to best protect your child. The Scottish Parliament passed this piece of legislation unanimously to adopt it into domestic law, however, MSP’s outrage was triggered by the interference of the UK Government which delayed its implementation by referring the bill to the Supreme Court for approval.
